What is Food to the Rescue or FTTR?

Food to the Rescue is a local not for profit, in the Putnam and Overton County Area, delivering food boxes to children who have limited food resources.

 

Who is eligible?

Any Child who meets the following criteria can apply for the program, once your application is received we will contact you for follow up questions:

-Lives within Putnam or Overton County with Putnam or Oveton Co address

-age 1-17

-No unrestrained or aggressive animals on the property.

*Please inform us of any food allergies

*Although it is our intent to provide food to all applicants, doing so may not always be possible due to limited resources.

 

When will delivery occur?

Deliveries will occur before the Putnam County and or Overton Co academic calendar school breaks, usually the Thursday before Fall Break, Winter break, Spring break, and possibly 3x during Summer break.

 

Who will deliver to the children?

Approved Volunteers via the FTTR committee.

 

​What if I have an outdoor animal?

All outdoor animals must be restrained at the time of delivery, if a delivery volunteer feels threatened in anyway by the presence of an animal they will not be required to drop off food.

​

What about children home alone? 

We give the option with your approval to leave the food at the front door.

​Is food to the rescue government funded?

​No, it is a locally funded non profit organization with a qualified 501(c)(3) exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code. Food to the Rescue is a grassroots local non-profit, independently supported organization.

Where does the food come from? 

Food & Snacks are purchased and or donated by people and organizations around Putnam and Overton County. From monetary donations we are able to purchase from Sam's, Second Harvest, Kroger, IGA, IWC, Dollar Tree, and Food Lion.

What are other alternatives to get meals? 

During Summer break, Putnam County Food Service offers FREE meals to any one 18 and under, no questions asked Monday-Friday from 8-5pm at certain schools which they announce.

How can I donate?

How can I become a delivery driver? 

Visit our get involved page to find out more. But you must possess a valid driver licenses, proof of insurance and we will run a background check on all delivery drivers.
